Viva Las Vegas At The Asturias
A great crowd of 120 people packed the Asturias Restaurant on the evening of May 2nd to enjoy a spectacular fundraising event, floorshow and diner-dance on behalf of Sweet Charity Hospice Fund. The show was conceived by the talented Eddie Wallace and Martha Harlam. Eddie and friends thrilled the audience with a true variety of song, dance, magic and Casino 4 Fun completed the Vegas themed night with Black Jack and Roulette tables. Allan Scott crooned his way through songs like ‘My Way’ reminiscent of styles associated with Michael Bubblay. Magic Mike Mondeo wowed the guest at their tables with card tricks and disappearing coloured squash balls. A true highlight of the evening was Raquel Peña’s Spanish Dancers. The young troop of dancers twirled and stomped their way through traditional Sevillanas as they then moved onward to fulfil their commitments at the Feria de Mayo in Torrevieja. Before they left, Raquel Peña announced to the audience that her annual show at the Teatro Capitol in Rojales would be presented next year in aid of Sweet Charity. She then went on to say that she guaranteed Sweet Charity 2000 € out of the proceeds of her next show. Then the master himself took the Floor. Eddie Wallace thrilled and entertained the crowd with musical walks down memory lane, jokes and a Q&A with the audience. He delivered a heart wrenching rendition of ‘Bring him Home’ from the musical Les Miserables. This song left not a dry eye in the place and is a favourite request of the charity.  The evening came to a close as Martha Harlam delivered an impassioned speech leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind that Sweet Charity would be servicing the south Costa Blanca with Hospice care for a long time to come. Martha invited her volunteers up for all the audience to meet saying “a charity is only as successful as its team of loving and creative helpers.” Her thanks went to Jan, Judith, Jean, Dawn, Moira, Gina and Barbara for all of the organisation of the raffles and stand up bingo bringing the proceeds of the evening to 1355€.

  Fundraising Finale
The evening of Friday 20th April was a first for some residents of the Southern Costa Blanca and Elche when they went to listen to 2 English bands. Traditional Jazz Band ‘All That Jazz’ and Blues/Rock Band ‘Plan B’ were performing for the first time in Elche at The Odeon Cinema by the Vinalopo river in the maze of streets which is the old town.

  Bike for Life
The Sweet Charity Hospice Fund is again introducing a sponsored bicycle tour now not only in Torre de la Horradada but in the urbanisation of La Marina as well. Together with the sponsors of the Bike tour, The Family Bike Hire company of Orihuela Costa, this event has been created to help awareness about the work of Sweet Charity and secure funding for their Hospice Care project called the ‘Angel Network.’
