  Cold Water Warm Hearts
When his own family, as so many tragically are, was touched by cancer, Dennis wanted to be able to do something to help in the fight against the disease. So it was four years ago that the now traditional New Year’s Day swim in aid of the A.E.C.C. was born.

Sweet Success for Sweet Charity’s Easter Walk
At 7.30am April 7th the phone was ringing off the hook with doubters who imagined that the Sweet Charity Hospice Fund Easter walk would be cancelled. As I kept getting closer to the coast chinks of blue sky started to appear and I said to myself - YES! This will take place. After 3 hail Mary’s and a rousing chorus of ‘the sun will come out tomorrow’ the night before, I never gave up hope. Sweet Charity Hospice Fund is all about giving people hope. Now it was my turn. I never walked alone. There were 140 others along with me to soak in the rays of sunlight. After a hearty breakfast, we all proceeded from the Asturias Restaurant on the dot of 11.00am.  The sight of all those supporters crossing the blue overpass bridge to the N-332, led by Jan Nicholson of the Angel network was breathtaking. Complete with angel wings, the SCHF team led an orderly passage over the bridge and further past the Nautalis Cafe on to the beach. In all it took 1 hour for the first walkers to arrive at the 103 Beach Bar. Kieth Monk and his Jazz Piano, along with Toni Rose and Brian Morris of the Infinity Duo entertained the huge crowd of Hospice supporters. Beach Bar 103 proved to be a perfect ‘watering hole’ in every way. Meanwhile back at the Asturias the SCHF team was counting the monies taken and listing all the sponsors who showed up on the day. Sponsor sheets were completed with winner badges for having completed the walk. Singers (MC) Brian Summers, Rod Kay, and Cathy Carson were setting up to entertain the huge crowd of supporters as they enjoyed a full barbeque. Raquel Peña’s Flamenco dancers wowed the crowd and a gem of a dancer (just 6 years-old) was a highlight of the 3 hour show. A tombola, Easter egg painting for the kids and various other attractions rounded off a highly entertaining event and through it all the sun continued to shine.

  The Issue of Desalination
The Conselleria for the Territory has revealed that the state-owned company Acuamed simply is unable to justify placing the largest desalination plant in Europe in Torrevieja, as it cannot guarantee the environmental protection of the La Mata lakes Natural Park.
