  San Javier Fiestas de Roda
The Rodas Fiestas, started last weekend on August 19th with an open air dance in the pine woods that night and the election of the adult, child and visiting ‘Majas’ or beauties. Those up early Sunday morning enjoyed the parade of horses through the town, and the obligatory giant paella was had by some 700 people for lunch in the woods. The afternoon continued with a water party, children’s games, a ribbon race with prizes and more dancing into the night.
   
  Hop!era
The 37th International Festival of Theatre, Music and Dance in San Javier displayed something a little different last Friday. Called, ‘Hop!era’ its authors and directors, Jordi Purtí and Toni Albá described it as, “A different type of spectacle, created to listen to opera and watch theatre, to be moved and to laugh, to stagger the senses of the audience.”
   
  Exhibitions Draw the Crowds
The exhibition rooms and museums of Torrevieja have been receiving thousands of visitors over the summer. Councillor for Culture, Eduardo Dolón cited the La Caixa exhibition of ‘Iberians: Princes, Warriors and Craftsmen’ as an example having admitted some 38,924 people since its opening on July 17th.
   
  Spanish Ballet of Murcia
The Spanish Ballet of Murcia last Friday opened the dance part of the San Javier festival with a showing of the ballet ‘El Celoso.’ To turn Cervantes work into ballet, the Spanish Ballet of Murcia had the help of many different people, including Cristóbal Gabarrón, the artist who designed the scenery, the journalist and writer Antonio Parra versioned the text and a professor from the University of Murcia, César Oliva, who controlled the dramatisation.
