  Fabric Art in Torrevieja
Art is a very important part of the cultural activities that happen in Torrevieja. An example of this can be seen in a beautiful exhibition at the Antigua Estacion de Renfe. The artist Alfonso Serrano presents original paintings made totally with fabric. This exhibition can be seen until 15 October. There are 20 paintings with reproductions of famous paintings such as Van Gogh “The Sunflowers”, Julio Romero Torres “Mujer Cordobesa”, and Paul Delvaux. The paintings of Alfonso Serrano are made by hand, with a mixture of art and handwork. The landscapes and the figures are made of hundreds of pieces of gaily coloured material. Some of the scenes have a “naif” touch, with people walking on the streets taking the dog for a walk. Exotic birds, harlequins, and fruits take us to a wonderful world of beauty and fantasy.Go along and enjoy this exhibition that will be open until 15 of October. Opening times: 11:00-13:30 mornings and 18:00-22:00 evenings. Free entrance

  Salt boat craftwork
The Salt Boat is a tradition in Torrevieja. It’s the most common gift donated when a celebrity comes to visit this town. But how are they made? All you need is a piece of rope, wooden sticks and lots and lots of patience. It takes a whole year to transform a wooden boat into a salt boat. When the basic shape has been formed (using the rope and the sticks) all you need to do is to place the boat into the salt marsh. It’s very important that the boat remains very still, otherwise the salt won’t cover it correctly. A year later and there you have it… a salt boat.
