Valencian Community Day
A ceremony took place in the Plaza de la Constitución in Torrevieja on Saturday morning to mark the ‘Dia de la comunidad valenciana’. The Mayor of Torrevieja, Pedro Hernández Mateo, raised the Valencian Community flag and the Unión Musical Torrevejense performed the Torrevieja anthem, the Valencian anthem and finally the Spanish National anthem.
Moors and Christians in Crevillente
When it gets to the beginning of October, it feels as if summer is well and truly over and that winter is just around the corner. All the fiestas and fun are over for another year. But there are still some places in the province of Alicante who haven’t finished their fiestas. This is the case of Crevillente. Crevillente is a small town near Elche which is famous for carpets (made by the Arabs who live in Crevillente, who represent 20% of the population), but also for the traditional Moors and Christians parade.
The castle in Santa Pola will be the venue for a photographic exhibition about the people and customs of the town in the twentieth century. The exhibition will begin on 8 October and will include 180 photographs of the first five decades of the twentieth century.
