The IV Torneo Futbol 7 Football league season came to an end on Tuesday 1st May with the final games being played. This was then followed by the League Presentation of Trophies and Medals by the Javea Concejal de Deportes José F. Erades Serrat.
This is the 4th successive year that the Javea football league, organised by the Penya La Marina and the Ayuntemiento of Javea, has been running. The age groups consist of Benjamins (under 10’s), Alevins (under 12’s), Infantils (under 14’s) and Cadette (under 16’s). Over 300 children have taken part in the football league and once again it has been a great success.
F.C. Amigos de Javea, an International youth football club, sponsored by Websters Assesores, once again had a very successful season in this year’s competition. The F.C. Amigos entered 4 teams in the leagues at Benjamin, Alevin (2 teams) and Infantil age groups.
The Benjamin team managed by Alan Winstanley and Steve Gill ran out as League Champions, losing only one game. Joe Winstanley won a trophy as the league’s leading goal scorer and the team also won a trophy for the best defensive record in the league.
The Alevin A team managed by Andy Barnish and Steve Mawdesley also won their league in a very close and competitive finish. Daniel Barnish won a trophy for the league’s 2nd highest goal scorer and the team also won the league’s best defensive record trophy.
The Alevin B team managed by Steve Thame picked up an award for the best “Sporting Team” which was very well deserved. This award was voted by all the managers in the league and confirmed the hard work, sportsmanship, and good team spirit demonstrated by the players.
The Infantil team managed by Brian Kiernan came third in their league with what was a very young side. Most of the players will be eligible to play in the same age group next season so hopes are high for another good showing when the season starts up again. Chad Kiernan won a trophy for the league’s 2nd highest goal scorer
F.C. Amigos President, Andy Barnish, was presented with an award in recognition of his contribution to youth football in the Javea area.
The day was capped off by the Penya La Marina laying on food and drinks for all the teams and parents with everyone having a great time and celebrating in the sunshine.
