Last Tuesday, Katie Reilly’s completed the second leg of the Superpool Winter League double by adding the Knock-out Cup to the Division One title they had won the previous week, both matches taking place at “The Caribbean Bar”.
Calypso took a 1 – 0 lead when Brian Williams won a tight opening game against Roger Paul.
Sean O’Sullivan leveled the scores at 1 – 1 by beating Bill Hutchinson, and Katie Reilly’s went 2 – 1 up after John Broadway won a tactical encounter with Jeff Proudfoot.
Calypso then found a rich run of form to take three consecutive frames. Mick Taylor beating Alan Murray, Mickey Cahoon beating Richie Green and Chris Hutchinson beating Bob Blagdon to go 4 – 2 up at the end of the singles.
The doubles started with Katie Reilly’s needing all three remaining frames to win the match. Sean O’Sullivan and Bob Blagdon beat Mickey Cahoon and Paul Kavanagh to reduce the arrears to 4 – 3. Then John Broadway and Richie Green won an un-likely frame against Chris Hutchinson and Brian Williams to level the match at 4 – 4.
The deciding frame was a tense, tactical affair with neither team giving an inch and after 40 minutes it was decided to re-rack the balls !!!! The re-racked frame was equally as tense with both teams having chances on the black before Roger Paul and Alan Murray overcame Mick Taylor and Alan Grantham to win the trophy for Katie Reilly’s.
