  Rio Safari Park
With the sun shining and Easter now just weeks away it is time to start thinking about the holidays and where to take the kids and visiting grandchildren. Over the coming weeks we will be re-visiting some of the favourites and seeing what is new for 2007. This week Steve Locke is at Elche’s Rio Safari Park.
   
  Fishing Village Done Good
Sun, sea, sand and sangria – Benidorm certainly offers all of these and lots more besides. Located in the Northern Costa Blanca region of Spain, Benidorm is, nowadays, the major destination in Europe for holidaymakers wanting a seaside holiday. With over 4 million visitors annually this is a serious resort and Benidorm has certainly got to grips with the needs and desires of this huge number of visitors.
   
  La Mata’s Parque Natural
Located in the Vega Baja region of the province of Alicante, the salt flats of Torrevieja and La Mata occupy sections of the municipal districts of Rojales, Torrevieja, Los Montesinos and Guardamar del Segura. The 2 lagoons and their surrounding areas are now a protected Natural Park. The salt lake at La Mata was declared as an important area for bird life in 1989 and in 1996 the entire area was declared as a Natural Park. The park covers an area of approximately 3,700 hectares, the Torrevieja lake is the largest at 1400 hectares and the La Mata lake covers an area of about 700 hectares.
   
  Valencia – from Silk to Sailing
For a short break the place to go this year is Valencia, for it is here that for the first time in Europe one of sailing’s major championships is to be held. The eyes of the world will be focused on Valencia later this year for the prestigious America’s Cup. Already, in early January the Spanish challenger, Desafio Español took its craft out for a maiden voyage.
   
  Denia is a Dream
Famous for its fine sandy beaches, its 11th Century castle and its many fiestas, Denia has long been a destination for tourists, holidaymakers and sun lovers. Well known for its lovely harbour, Denia is an important ferry port with regular trips to the Balearic Islands (Ibiza is just a two hour trip by ferry).
